Walking through the crowd, you’re overwhelmed by the music, the smells and the sights. Each performer catching your eye; a clown, a knife thrower, a sword swallower, a fortune teller, acrobats and tightrope walkers. In front of one tent there is a man yelling, “Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, step right up and see the odd, the peculiar, the Freaks!” This collection is inspired by 19th century carnivals and the performers. Using primary colors and basic patterns help embody the feeling and whimsy of the Carnival and Freak Shows.

The plastic based, polyester fabric is made through harvesting plastic, from not only beaches but from the ocean as well. The fabric can be made from pure plastic, or a mixture of plastic and fiber waste or plastic and used fabric. In order to get to the finalized fabric, the plastic is melted down, extruded, and then lastly spun into the fibers that form the fabric itself.

Transitioning the assymetry and abstract lines from the canvas to fabric. The painted lines are tangled and intertwinned with each other, like how the garments get tangled in with the ribbing and leather straps.

This collection was inspired by the NHL and its beginnings. The NHL was originally made up of the “Original 6” this was the first 6 teams in the NHL, the New York Rangers, Boston Bruins, Chicago Blackhawks, Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadiens, and Detroit Red Wings. The silhouettes in Power Play is inspired by the uniforms and safety gear at the time as well as the women’s hockey uniforms.
